The last ROAR adventure of the year took 5th and 6th grade students to Curlew Lake State Park where the Washington State Parks Boating Safety Educational group traveled all the way from Olympia to put on a two day introduction to kayaking and water safety class. Students were introduced to proper kayak paddling techniques, water safety skills, and basic lifesaving techniques. Each student who completed the course was given a properly fitted life jacket to keep and use for the upcoming summer months.
A big thank you goes out to the instructors and support staff who made these last two adventures some of the best of the year:
Rob Sendak, Alyssa Smith, Derek Van Dyke, Ranger Brian Alexander, and the Ferry County Sheriff's Marine Division Deputies.

Community service was the focus of the 1st Grade's last ROAR adventure. As an end of the year project, Mrs. Campbell wanted to plant flowers in a few empty planters in town as a way for the students to give back to the community. The students had been growing most of the plants in their classroom as part of their science curriculum.
Thank you to these community members for their help in making this learning experience such a success:
Mary Jo Olsen
Nick Olsen
Esther Popp
Will Folkes
Mary Ciais

Kindergarten students had their last ROAR adventure at the K Diamond K guest ranch where students fed chickens, pigs, and turkeys. Students explored the ranch and some brave students learned how to milk a cow. After a lunch by the campfire, students had a great time petting the resident pony.
Thank you Kathy McKay for allowing us to spend time on the ranch. For many students it was their first time being up close to farm animals.

The 2nd grade's final ROAR adventure took them to Keller School where students from both schools shared in a day of friendship, singing, and dancing. Tribal storytellers Montee Nelson and Dan Namamkin entertained the kids with stories of the coyote, the eagle, and the bear while students learned about cultural dancing.
The ROAR program would like to thank Dolly Brudevold and Kari Neal who organized this unique opportunity for the students of Republic School District.
Also, a huge thank you to Dan Namamkin and Montee Nelson for sharing their message of friendship, gratitude, and kindness.

The Republic School District will be closed Monday 5/29 in recognition and observance of Memorial Day! School will resume Tuesday 5/30.
