Miss Starr's 2nd grade class ventured to The Ferry Country Conservation District greenhouse to learn about soil. Students were shown how use tools the conservation district uses to collect soil samples. Students then collected four different soil samples and used their observation skills to determine which soil is the best for growing plants. Students also received a quick lesson on local tree species and also how to measure the diameter of trees. THANK YOU to Mckenzi Coleman and Dave Hedrick from the Conservation District for their help in planning this ROAR Adventure and giving their time to the students of Republic School District.

Mr. Winter's 5th Grade class traveled to Grand Coulee Dam for their ROAR Adventure. On the tour, students were allowed inside one of the three powerhouses where the power generating turbines are located. They were guided deep within the tunnels of the dam to depths of 250 feet below current water level. Lastly students were led to the top of the dam where they learned how hydroelectric power is created at Grand Coulee Dam and how the dam was created for irrigating the Columbia Basin and other parts of eastern Washington.

Attention 5th Grade Parents: Our next ROAR adventure is Wednesday, April 12th where we travel to Grand Coulee Dam. Due to the distance we will be away from school, please make sure to have your child properly dressed for inclement weather as we will be outside most of the day. Also, it may be a good idea to pack extra healthy snacks in addition to a school lunch that may be provided. It is important to inform parents this adventure will extend beyond the end of the regular school day. This will require you to make arrangements to pick up your child after school hours. Our return time will be approximately 3:15-3:30 on Wednesday, April 12th. Thank you for your help and if you have any questions, please contact Mr. McRae or Mr. Winters
