Kindergarten students had their last ROAR adventure at the K Diamond K guest ranch where students fed chickens, pigs, and turkeys. Students explored the ranch and some brave students learned how to milk a cow. After a lunch by the campfire, students had a great time petting the resident pony.
Thank you Kathy McKay for allowing us to spend time on the ranch. For many students it was their first time being up close to farm animals.
The 2nd grade's final ROAR adventure took them to Keller School where students from both schools shared in a day of friendship, singing, and dancing. Tribal storytellers Montee Nelson and Dan Namamkin entertained the kids with stories of the coyote, the eagle, and the bear while students learned about cultural dancing.
The ROAR program would like to thank Dolly Brudevold and Kari Neal who organized this unique opportunity for the students of Republic School District.
Also, a huge thank you to Dan Namamkin and Montee Nelson for sharing their message of friendship, gratitude, and kindness.

Pictured is the Youth Prevention Team for STACC (Students Taking Action for Community Change). Theses students recently returned from the Spring Youth Forum in Grand Mound, where they gave a presentation on what their team has been doing to make a difference in their community. There were over 40 schools in attendance at this year's forum and Republic's team qualified for finals! The teams final presentation was given in front of 300 youth and multiple advisors. Republic STACC represented our school well and we are very proud of them! Nice work team!
GOOOO TIGERS!
Excitement was high as students were given the unique opportunity to get an up close look at a number of race cars from the Eagle Track Raceway. Students were given the chance to sit in the driver's seat of the cars and a few of the students were even given the chance to work as a pit crew and change a tire while racing against the clock. A big shout out goes to Jason Pestka, Angela Menneke, Rob Adams, and TJ Larsen for sharing their passion and expertise and for making this a great experience for the students of Republic Schools. Even Mr. and Mrs. Finley enjoyed the fun as well.
Miss King's 3rd grade ROAR trip took students to Stonerose fossil dig site for their last adventure of the year. After the dig, each student was informed on the amazing fossil discovery they uncovered while at the site. Another big thank you goes out to Travis Wellman, Andy Brockett, and Simon Curtis for their help with another great learning opportunity for the students of Republic Elementary.

Republic School Staff, Students, and Families:
At approximately 11:45 AM today (May 10th), our school administration received report of an alleged threat to the Curlew School District. All buildings were placed on a “soft” lockdown (building entrances and exits were secured) per the Sherriff’s Department. The Sherriff’s Department responded accordingly to Curlew and promptly performed an inspection of Republic’s facilities to ensure students and staff were safe here as well.
We quickly received notice that similar threats were being made to school districts across the eastern side of our state, following the known “swatting hoax.” According to the Washington School Safety Center, “Swatting is defined as a false report of an ongoing emergency or threat of violence intended to prompt an immediate tactical law enforcement response. Swatting is not a new threat; it has evolved over the last decade or so and includes a range of tactics and techniques used to cause false public alarm and divert law enforcement resources to a hoax threat. Certain incident types and tactics have tended to receive more media coverage than others. Swatting scenarios include bomb threats, active shooter scenarios, threats of an imminent shooting rampage, hostage scenarios, and threats involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosives agents.”
At 12:55 PM the lockdown was lifted. Law enforcement has confirmed no credible threats to our school campuses, and all schools will continue operating as usual. We want to assure our families that our first priority is the safety of our students and staff. In the event of any reported threat at our schools, emergency services will respond and our schools will follow the established safety procedures while determining the credibility of the threat. We ask that you talk with your children about how hoaxes like these can cause trauma to their peers and potentially prevent our community’s first responders from responding to real emergencies. We continue to encourage our students and school community to report anything that could constitute a threat to school safety.
The Republic School District is currently back to normal operations, the soft lock down has been lifted per the Sheriff's Department. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. There will be a deputy on site as a precaution.
As a precaution and in response to a possible emergency situation in the Curlew area, Republic School District is currently in a soft lockdown. Please contact the district if you have any questions. We will continue to monitor the situation to assure our students and staff are safe.
K-4 Spring Concert May 11th
Attention families,
The after-school program has been canceled for today. Our teachers are attending a staff development training. The program will resume tomorrow.
Have a wonderful day!
State testing for Middle School and High School students will begin on May 9th. Grades 7, 8, 10, and 11 will begin testing in math and then ELA (English and Reading). The student class schedule will not be the same on testing dates. It is our desire and expectation that all students continue to have regular attendance, even if they are not in a testing grade. Preparation for testing is important; ensuring that your students are getting plenty of rest and nutrition is a very important step. If you have questions about testing, please reach out to us.
